ANEMONE - ANIMAL/INVERTEBRATE

ANEMONE ARE LIKE JELLYFISH FIXED TO THE SEA FLOOR; THEY HAVE TENTACLES WITH VENOM HOWEVER A FEW ANIMALS HAVE DEVELOPED AN IMMUNITY.

THEY STING AND IMMOBILISE THEIR PREY WITH THEIR TENTACLE AND MOVE THEM TOWARDS THEIR MOUTH IN THE CENTRE

ANEMONE CRAB

Anemone crabs are perfectly adapted to live in anemone. The anemone and the crab exchange mucus and this provides a level of immunity to the stings. Anemone crabs also feed off the mucus, which provides them a balanced diet.

These Crabs have developed a level of camouflage and blend in with the anemone.

Clown Fish

Clown Fish share the same method of developing an immunity to the sting. They Exchange Mucus and are able to live amongst the anemone. These small fish have Smaller Caudal fins than other fish, making them naturally slow and less effective swimmers. These fins, however, allow the fish to make quick darting movements.

Another feature of the clownfish is its attractiveness towards the olfactory stimuli output by anemone meaning they are able to easily locate anemone.

Zooxanthellae live in multiple different habitats, hence I have made a special page for them. Interested in these small algae?
